Supervised Detox

Withdrawal from addictive substances and prescription drugs can range from mild to very severe and because symptoms can be so intense and painful, it is not advised to stop or go "cold turkey." Withdrawing from drugs and alcohol can be potentially dangerous and can result in severe effects on the body.

Generally, any type of detox can provoke a range of symptoms. These withdrawal symptoms can include, but are not limited to, nausea, anxiety, uncontrollable shaking, depression, hot and cold sweats and insomnia. However, these detox symptoms can be more severe, predominantly if users were addicted to opiates or prescription medications.

The Thames Clinic promotes the safety and comfort of all clients during the detox period and this is accomplished under the supervision of our in-house fully trained and qualified medical professionals. We ensure that during this process, the person is closely monitored by the medical staff to ensure that they receive the highest level of care and safety appropriate for a successful recovery. During the detox period, we make every attempt to engage our clients in appropriate treatment and make their withdrawal from alcohol and/or drugs as comfortable as possible.

The length of time users spend in the detox program can vary, depending on the drugs, amount of use and length of use of the substance users are detoxing from.
