The goal of drug therapy is to eliminate the addiction, so that there is no longer any sign of illness and to permit a healthy and drug free normality to be restored. It has been shown to be an effective form of intervention when dealing with substance abuse.
At the Thames Clinic we believe that to be effective, the client needs to be active in the process and willing to make changes. Furthermore, it is imperative that there are no additional stresses to take into account. At The Thames Clinic, we ensure that general day to day issues are minimised.
The cognitive therapies are directed towards identifying and correcting maladaptive thinking patterns that result in self-destructive behaviours and obtrusive feelings. The goal of drug therapy at The Thames Clinic is to assist the client in mastering skills used to identify problems and to provide a more balanced perspective that is encouraging towards more productive behaviours. This is accomplished by approaching problem solving in an efficient manner composed of steps that the client perceives as being manageable. Our therapists work with clients on a one to one basis to enhance their coping capabilities.
By working closely with clients, our therapists hope to be able to redefine the existing problems, so as the patient can hold the power to transform a predicament into an opportunity or challenge.
