Drug and Alcohol Interventions

To help a loved one overcome their drug or alcohol addiction, a drug and alcohol intervention is vital, and often an essential part of the recovery process. People with addictions rarely see the negative effects their behaviour has on themselves as well as others. It's important not to wait until they want help. Instead, think of an intervention as giving your loved one a distinct opportunity to make changes before things get any worse. It is, however, possible to initiate an intervention at any time during the addiction abuse process.

A drug and alcohol intervention is a way to help the addict realise the negative impact on not only their overall health, but also their quality of life and relationships. It's a time to help them see that their family members and loved ones are also greatly affected by their addiction.

The drug and alcohol intervention process begins when friends and family and/or co-workers, with the help of our experiences staff, work together in attempt to convince an addict to accept professional help. The next step of the process is the actual intervention, and is most effectively devised by a professional.

Here at the Thames Clinic we are aware that denial is a ubiquitous partner with drug addiction. Just because an individual's life has become unmanageable as a result of drug and alcohol addiction, regardless of what drugs and alcohol are being abused, along with the abuse comes a lack of enthusiasm or ability to confront the true nature of their own problem with drugs and alcohol, lack of motivation to take any kind of action to better their lives. This is referred to as denial, and it comes in many forms, this could be blaming, playing the victim, anger, fear etc. Along with denial, an addict must deal with pride and ego, two of the worst enemies of addiction. Drug and alcohol intervention and Interventionists play an essential role in the treatment process.

We are confident that we are able to help your loved one get on the first rung of the ladder to a better, drug free life, and with the intervention we are also confident of helping them to remain well.
